How You Get One

method, in order
Passive Passive, fed Blood Packs while it is holding you in the air.

Step by step

  1. Let it grab you. That is the taming position — it reels you in with a web and holds you.
  2. Feed it Blood Packs from your inventory while suspended.
  3. The number needed scales with its level, which is why the food list is banded by level rather than being one entry.

Holding it still

Chain BolaFired from a Ballista or Harpoon Launcher. Grounds flyers and pins them where they land.
Bear TrapPlace it, kite the creature over it. Holds long enough to get darts in.
Large Bear TrapSame idea as the Bear Trap, sized for the big stuff. Bait it into walking over one.
Plant Species YA grown trap plant — snares whatever triggers it. Handy where you can't place structures.

That's the full list — nothing else immobilizes a Bloodstalker, per the game's own immobilizer table (drag weight 300).

Every number in this card is at official 1× rates, with the fastest food. Taming speed and food consumption multipliers change all of it, and most servers are not on official — the calculator at the top of this tab takes your rates, a Sanguine Elixir, and every other food this creature will eat.

Effectiveness is what decides the bonus levels: every unit of food eaten costs a slice of it, so the food that needs the fewest units finishes at the highest level. That is why kibble is worth the trouble — not that it is much faster, but that it is fewer feedings.

Tame Guide

traps, methods & egg runs

For general information about domesticating a wild creature, see Taming.

Bloodstalker is tamed non-violently, rather than through the usual methods.

With Blood Pack in the inventory (doesn't matter where, whether in the toolbar or not), locate a Bloodstalker (usually found on a giant tree) and let it latch onto you. It will start draining the blood pack once latched very quickly, and will continue to do so until either there are no blood packs left or it is tamed. If the Bloodstalker is tamed during the process, it will latch the survivor onto it as if the survivor is riding on it, ensuring the survivor does not fall to his/her death thereafter.

Testing confirms 10 blood packs are needed for every level. 50 blood packs for a level 5.

Be wary, however, as the Blood Pack expires with 30 minutes without any form of preservation like Preserving Salt, searching to tame it must be done if blood packs are to be made immediately, and even more so as you need at most 1.5k Blood Packs in your inventory for a 150. Bring a few Parachute to escape from the current Bloodstalker after freeing from it. While being held by a Bloodstalker, you will not be able to create more blood packs or consume any consumables (ie, Medical Brews/Food/Soups).

Having Bug Repellant while taming can be useful, as it wards off the bog’s prominent Insect Swarm from attacking and potentially interrupting the tame.

Increasing Efficiency

By default, the efficiency starts at a low percentage (around 50%). To increase its taming efficiency, it requires bloods from killing tamed creatures that it grabbed onto (Examples are Parasaur and Moschops), which increase its efficiency by a small percentage per kill. A tame with more health gives a bigger increase. Efficiency does not drop once it is raised, allowing taming to be safely made without risking any lowering of efficiency.

• Only kills made through web grabbing counts for the taming efficiency boost. Any kills made through the conventional method do not count.

• Taming Effectiveness will not reduce when a wild Bloodstalker takes damage.

• While the Taming multiplier affects the amount of blood pack required to tame the Bloodstalker, the level of the creature used as sacrifice are unaffected by the multiplier.

• Sacrificing players does not increase the taming efficiency, however it does increase the taming progress.

• Tames can be set to passive behavior prior to the sacrifice.

After the Bloodstalker kills or releases the target, the Bloodstalker gets Bio Grapple Cooldown effect, preventing the user to grab another valid target for 15 seconds.
