How You Get One

method, in order
Passive You get it drunk on a tame's blood before it will take food.

Step by step

  1. Kill wild Ceratosaurus for Venom Spines and craft the Hemogoblin Cocktail — the engram unlocks at level 60.
  2. Feed the cocktail to a sturdy tame. For 180 seconds the effect draws wild Ceratosaurus to attack that tame.
  3. Let it feed: as long as it keeps attacking it grows steadily blood-drunk, and its attacks slow as it does.
  4. The intoxication wears off after 10 minutes, so re-dose — a high level takes at least 3 cocktails.
  5. Once fully drunk it can be passive-fed, accepting food roughly every 60 seconds.

Also true

  • The bait tame is soaking real bites the whole time — high health and a good saddle matter, and a Stegosaurus or Rock Elemental holds up best.

Every number in this card is at official 1× rates, with the fastest food. Taming speed and food consumption multipliers change all of it, and most servers are not on official — the calculator at the top of this tab takes your rates, a Sanguine Elixir, and every other food this creature will eat.

Effectiveness is what decides the bonus levels: every unit of food eaten costs a slice of it, so the food that needs the fewest units finishes at the highest level. That is why kibble is worth the trouble — not that it is much faster, but that it is fewer feedings.

Taming Method

Taming a Ceratosaurus involves a relatively simple taming process, but requires your character to be level 60. You will need to hunt wild Ceratosaurus in order to obtain their Venom Spines. These are used to craft Hemogoblin Cocktail which is restricted to an engram unlocked at level 60.

Once you have located a Ceratosaurus of your choice you will need to feed one of your tames the cocktail which will give it a status effect that will attract wild Ceratosaurus for 180 seconds (3 minutes). When the Ceratosaurus attacks the creature with the status effect, it will slowly become "blood drunk" over time, so long as it keeps attacking the creature affected by the cocktail. As it becomes more blood drunk, its attack speed will slow down, but as long as it's constantly attacking, progression should remain consistent. Higher-level Ceratosaurus will require at least 3 cocktails. Try to ensure there is no downtime between the cocktails as the Cerato will quickly lose drunk progression.

Once it has become totally drunk it will slowly wander around passively and you can then begin to passive feed it. It will generally accept food every 60 seconds without needing to wait for its food to drop to 90% for additional feedings. They only stay drunk for 10 minutes before they become active again, requiring another round of cocktails to make it drunk again. With this in mind, try to feed it the moment it's ready to eat to minimize the required cycles of making it drunk.

It is recommended to use tames that have a lot of health and equip them with high-quality saddles. Creatures with natural damage reduction such as Stegosaurus are recommended. If you have access, a Rock Elemental is quite sturdy and resists knockback entirely so it's exceptional for this role. If needed, having a Daeodon on standby reduces any risks of losing your tame.

Using a trap is not practical as the Cerato will not attack consistently within structures even when plenty of space is available to move around. Clearing the area while placing your tame against a natural wall should be enough but having a tribemate around to deal with wandering threats will give you some peace of mind.

what it does and how you trigger it

  • Bite Primary attack

The Ceratosaurus bites the target 25 damage. If the rider aims with the camera at the sides or at the back of the mount and attacks the Ceratosaurus will turn to that direction and bites, needs at least 90° degrees.

    5 stamina · 0.45s cooldown
  • Horn Thrust or Tail Spin Secondary attack

The Ceratosaurus attacks the target for 40 damage. This attack does different animations and actions depending of where the camera is looking: When looking forward, the Ceratosaurus headbutts the target with its horns. When looking to the sides or on its back, the Ceratosaurus lashes all opponents around it with its tail and turns to that direction. This attack inflicts Envenomed debuff.

  • Roar Crtl

The Ceratosaurus roars without any effect.

  • Acceleration

When the Ceratosaurus is running, it gains more speed the longer it runs, a speed bar will appear indicating the current and the maximum possible speed. Once reaching at least 75% of the sprinting limit speed, the Ceratosaurus will destroy any tree and rock that it collides with and can perform a more powerful Horn Thrust attack. If it stops, the accumulated speed will be lost and it needs to start again.

  • Damage Reflection

The Ceratosaurus applies Envenomed and returns 7% of the Melee Damage received back to its aggressor.

Passive

Whenever Ceratosaurus attacks or receives damage, it applies Envenomed debuff:

• This debuff lasts for 8 seconds on the affected targets and after it ends, it will apply a healing surge on the Ceratosaurus.

• The healing effect heals based on the target's total Health stat.

• This debuff can be applied to Bosses.

• Wild Ceratosaurus can apply this debuff without any cooldown between effects, tamed version has 8 seconds of cooldown between debuff applications.

• If the Ceratosaurus is tamed, it will also share the healing effect with other tamed carnivores nearby.
