How You Get One

method, in order
Passive Passive, fed beer — but only after you have read its face and it has decided you may.

Step by step

  1. Put a Beer Jar in the last slot of your hotbar and approach slowly while it is not fighting anything. It starts sniffing the air for the beer.
  2. Watch its expressions. Head shaking, ear flapping and trunk shaking are approval; a rolled-up trunk or hidden ears mean back off.
  3. Once it has shown all three positive signs, stand beneath its trunk and feed it.

Every number in this card is at official 1× rates, with the fastest food. Taming speed and food consumption multipliers change all of it, and most servers are not on official — the calculator at the top of this tab takes your rates, a Sanguine Elixir, and every other food this creature will eat.

Effectiveness is what decides the bonus levels: every unit of food eaten costs a slice of it, so the food that needs the fewest units finishes at the highest level. That is why kibble is worth the trouble — not that it is much faster, but that it is fewer feedings.

Tame Guide

traps, methods & egg runs

The Deinotherium has an aggressive temperament, so to tame one it is recommended to be alone. Kill the other pack members.

Put the Beer Jar on the last slot of your hotbar and approach the Deinotherium slowly, if it is not on aggro with anything, it will starts to sniff the air, searching for the beer smell.

Once it has detected you, it will turn towards you and begin to make facial expressions while observing you.

If the Deinotherium rolls up its trunk OR sticks its ears to its head instead of showing them it CANNOT be fed on that opportunity. Simply retreat until it stops looking at you and repeat the approaching process. This will not harm taming effectiveness.

If the Deinotherium is not doing any negative expression, it is safe to continue.

Each facial expression increases the probability that the Deinotherium accepts the beer from the player:

Failure to witness all 3 expressions per attempt risks the chance it rejects the beer and becomes hostile. Also, after about 8-9 expressions, the Deinotherium will become hostile regardless so if all 3 different expressions aren't shown by the 6th notion or so, it's best to just retreat and try again.

Once all 3 expressions are shown per attempt and it's not curling its trunk/hiding its ears, it's 100% safe to approach. Stand beneath its trunk and it should grab the beer from your inventory. Afterwards, immediately retreat as there is a chance it will temporarily aggro to you. Give it about 30 seconds, then repeat this process until the Deinotherium is tamed.
