method, in orderStep by step
- Hold a torch near one and it lands on your shoulder. It won't come to you while you're mounted.
- It asks for one of three things: harvesting, crafting, or killing. Do that.
- Bigger jobs fill the bar faster — a stone foundation counts for far more than an arrow.
- When the bar is full, feed it from the last slot of your hotbar.
Cooked Prime Meat is preferred;
Exceptional Kibble works. - Repeat the cycle until it's tamed.
Also true
- Mounting a creature suspends the process — stay on foot from the torch onwards.

traps, methods & egg runsPer the dossier, Drakelings are drawn toward fire. If you spot one, hold a torch. It will land on your shoulder and give you one of three options: to harvest, to craft, and to kill. These are all XP based. For example, if you craft a stone foundation, the bar will fill faster than making an arrow. The Drakeling will not be drawn to you if you are mounted, and mounting a creature will suspend the taming process.
Once you have filled the bar for harvesting, crafting, or killing, feed it something from the last slot in your hotbar. This process will repeat until the Drakeling is tamed. Each time, the action the Drakeling wants you to do may be different.
Mating
The seasonal variations of the Drakelings can be cross-bred, but they will only receive a single seasonal ability, not multiple.

- Shoulder Pet
Drakeling is a shoulder pet, meaning that it can be picked up by the player on their shoulder, allowing the Drakeling to attack from there if within range. It cannot take damage unless the player dies or it is thrown off the shoulder. While on your shoulder, the weight that the Drakeling has in its inventory will weigh half as much to the player.
- Slowfall
The Drakeling has a Slowfall option on its wheel menu, when active on player's shoulder, slows the player's fall speed and their fall damage. The Drakeling stores additional experience with every kill up to 30,000xp. This experience can be shared with an ally or tame and the Drakeling owning player receiving a
Dragon Hoard Key. Draconic knowledge scales with the level of the Drakeling, getting experience faster with higher level Drakelings. It caps out at 200% with a level 400 Drakeling, regardless of stat you put points to. Whenever the Drakeling is on its native Biome or with similar temperature, the player carrying it constantly receives Native Biome Boost and keeps it for 3 hours after leaving the biome. This boost increases the experience gained and the loot quality by 10%. Dragon Hoard Keys are acquired by transferring the stored experience points to a tame after a certain threshold of experience is stored. The quality of the Dragon Hoard keys are determined by how much experience is stored, with the maximum stored experience of 30,000 giving an ascendent Dragon Hoard key when transferred, while the minimum needed for a key being 5,000 experience. The keys can then be used much like a Treasure Map, requiring the player to travel to a certain location on the map. Once within range, a shoulder-mounted Drakeling will uncover a Dragon Hoard Chest. While it needs to be tested, there is a link between higher level Drakelings having more items in their Dragon Hoard chests, even at the same experience, over lower level Drakelings.
