- To tame a Dreadmare, you must kill it multiple times. 1. Locate a Dreadmare, which spawns only at night, and kill it. 2. Open its inventory (if killed with a creature, it will be in your creature's inventory) and retrieve the Dark Altar. 3. 4. Gather the required number of each possible tribute that the Dreadmare can request (see "Recipes" section below for all possible requested tributes -- this is a work-in-progress list, please report any inaccuracies). 5. Place the altar (also at night) and you'll have 5 minutes to provide the requested tribute. 6. Battle the Dreadmare again and kill it to increase its taming meter. 7. Repeat this until taming is complete.
Torpor
- This creature is torpor-immune to conventional tranquilisers. Darts, arrows and Narcotics will not drop it, so the torpor figures elsewhere on this page describe its stat, not a route to taming it.

traps, methods & egg runsTo gain the ability to tame the Dreadmare you will first need to pay $4.99 for its DLC, "ARK Fantastic Tames - Dreadmare". There is no way around this. Without it, while you can obtain an altar from a dead Dreadmare's body, you won't be able to use/interact with it.
Before actually trying to tame a Dreadmare, you will need to collect a myriad of tribute items as these will be used in the process. Tributes include items such as
Sarcosuchus Skin,
Spinosaurus Sail, and
Giganotosaurus Heart, as well as the alpha tribute items such as
Alpha Raptor Claw. Tributes from aquatic creatures such as
Megalodon Tooth are not required.
Once you've stockpiled a couple of each tribute, you will need to locate the Dreadmare you want to tame and then kill it. Its corpse will possess an altar which is the centerpiece for the taming procedure. The altar can be placed in a location of your convenience but it's highly advised to not place this within your base if you are missing some high-end tributes. When placed, it will check to see if it's nighttime. If not, it will state that the Dreadmare can only be tamed at night. If it is currently night, the altar will require tributes as sacrifices in a similar manner to
Rhyniognatha gestation. It can request essentially any tribute excluding those from aquatic creatures.
If provided the correct tribute, the altar will immediately summon just the Dreadmare. If not provided the correct tribute within 5 minutes it will damage the altar, as well as summoning both the Dreadmare and the creature from the required tribute at an equal level to the Dreadmare's. Regardless of whether or not you provided the tribute, you must kill the Dreadmare (and its summoned creature, if applicable) before they despawn to make progress. Once killed/despawned, the altar will request another tribute. Should you fail to offer tribute 4 times, the altar will break and terminate the taming procedure. In dire circumstances such as the altar requesting a Giganotosaurus Heart while you're in no position to handle a
Giganotosaurus, you can destroy the altar by interacting with it but this terminates the taming procedure. Repeat the process of offering tributes and killing the Dreadmare until taming is complete. At that point, interact with the altar which will be destroyed and it will summon a tamed Dreadmare with bonus levels depending on taming effectiveness.
• Altars are only available for a limited time once obtained and will end up "spoiling" if not placed.
• Altars can not be transferred between servers.
• Only one altar may be placed in the local area at a time.
• The number of times you need to fight the Dreadmare will be determined by its level. Modified taming rates also affect the number of times this must be done.
