method, in orderStep by step
- Find one. A Phoenix only spawns during a heat wave on Scorched Earth and burns out again quickly, so the window is short.
- Set it alight:
Flame Arrows, a
Flamethrower, or
Fire Wyvern breath. - Keep it burning until it is tamed. Weapon quality changes the speed — a 200% damage bow is roughly twice as fast as a 100% one.
Also true
- Taming effectiveness and the times on this page do not apply: the Phoenix uses its own calculation.
- It resurrects itself from ashes rather than dying outright, which is why it cannot simply be killed for the attempt.

Every number in this card is at official 1× rates, with the fastest food. Taming speed and food consumption multipliers change all of it, and most servers are not on official — the calculator at the top of this tab takes your rates, a Sanguine Elixir, and every other food this creature will eat.
Effectiveness is what decides the bonus levels: every unit of food eaten costs a slice of it, so the food that needs the fewest units finishes at the highest level. That is why kibble is worth the trouble — not that it is much faster, but that it is fewer feedings.
