method, in orderStep by step
- Find a
Reaper Queen in Aberration's element region and reduce her health — the impregnation only triggers when she is low, and only on a survivor on foot. - Let her grab you. She impregnates you; a countdown replaces your taming bar.
- Survive the gestation. Killing creatures while pregnant raises the level the Reaper is born at, so people farm XP deliberately during it.
- It bursts out of you, doing heavy damage. Wear
Reaper Pheromone Gland so the newborn — and every other
Nameless in the area — treats you as one of its own. - Raise it from a baby. There is no adult tame.
Also true
- The Reaper King is the male; every wild Reaper King you meet is untameable. What you raise comes out of the Queen, through you.
Holding it still
That's the full list — nothing else immobilizes a Surface Reaper King, per the game's own immobilizer table (drag weight 525).

Abilities
what it does and how you trigger it
- Bite Primary attack
The Reaper bites the target for 75 damage.
5 stamina - Acid Shrapnel Secondary attack
The Reaper fires 5 poison projectiles which deal 7 damage each. This attack applies the cocooned status to targets hit, reducing their movement speed and disabling the ability to fly for 10 seconds. Subsequent attacks will not prolong the effect, but can be applied again after the effect expires.
50 stamina - Spin Special 1
The Reaper quickly spins dealing large amounts of knockback and 48 damage.
30 stamina - Taunt Special 3
The Reaper roars.
15 stamina - Jump Jump
The Reaper jumps into the air. Holding down jump will increase jump strength.
30 stamina
- Natural armor
The Reaper reduces most types of damage that it receives by 80%, however this resistance can be ignored if a light source that provides the Charged Light effect is near. You will know the Reaper is vulnerable if glowing yellow streaks shine off its hide. Percentage-based attacks that ignore armor, such as most burning damage and bleeds, also bypass the Reaper's defenses.
