method, in orderStep by step
- Get
Primal Crystal. It comes from Crystal Wyvern nests and from harvesting crystal in the wild; ordinary Crystal works too, but slowly. - Approach an unmounted, un-aggroed Crystal Wyvern and feed it by hand. No tranquilisers.
- Keep feeding as the taming bar fills. Being hit resets your progress toward the tame, so clear the area first.
Also true
- Crystal Wyverns also hatch from eggs, but stealing one is a convenience, not the only route — which is exactly what separates them from the Fire, Lightning, Poison and Ice Wyverns.

That's the full list — nothing else immobilizes a Tropical Crystal Wyvern, per the game's own immobilizer table (drag weight 416).

Every number in this card is at official 1× rates, with the fastest food. Taming speed and food consumption multipliers change all of it, and most servers are not on official — the calculator at the top of this tab takes your rates, a Sanguine Elixir, and every other food this creature will eat.
Effectiveness is what decides the bonus levels: every unit of food eaten costs a slice of it, so the food that needs the fewest units finishes at the highest level. That is why kibble is worth the trouble — not that it is much faster, but that it is fewer feedings.

There are two ways of garnering a Crystal Wyvern: Either through raising from a stolen eggs from Heir variant of Crystal Wyverns from their nest (this can be circumvented with breeding two tamed/raised wyverns of the same variant), or passive taming them from anywhere with Crystal or
Primal Crystal (the latter is quicker and more effective, but the former is entirely feasible).
Passive Tame Strategy
Crystal Wyverns (except Heirs and Alphas) can be tamed non-violently, rather than through the use of tranquilizers. They can be fed with Crystal or noDlcIcon=1 while nearby. Do be warned that they tend to fly fast, which makes it difficult to tame them without causing aggression. Using this way requires the survivor to be a minimum of level 65 in order to feed Crystal Wyverns; lower than that will prevent the survivor from actually feeding it. By placing a large creature in front of it, the player is able to jump on its back where it can remain with out moving and able to feed while the wild wyvern flies around making the tame of it very fast. Alternately, a survivor can use a
Grappling Hook to be carried with the Crystal Wyvern as it flies; however, this method can be risky, as the survivor will take some damage as it weaves around. (It is strongly suggested
Parachute be on the hotbar, or a
Glider Suit Skin on the armor, for those daring enough to attempt this!). You can also pin them down with dino gates and feed them as needed. A wyvern trapped against some trees and a few dino gates is an easy tame target. A great way is to jump on their back between their shoulders then sit there while taming make sure to have parachutes in case you fall off, To get up jump on wings then jump up to shoulders. If you're using normal crystals it's highly suggested to only tame up to the level 90 Wyverns or below because the taming might not be effective enough for it to succeed before the taming bar starts to reduce again. Using this method it could need you from 32 up to 90 crystals to tame a level 90 Wyvern, depending on what kind of setting you are playing at.
Raising
Baby wyverns cannot be fed
Raw Meat like most other carnivores; however, their food drops a lot slower. They require Primal Crystal to increase their food and may ask for it when imprinting. Primal Crystal gives 350 and NOT 1200 food to the baby Crystal Wyvern. A growing baby Wyvern will consume approximately 1 unit of food every 10 seconds, or 360 units of food an hour. This means that one feeding of Primal Crystal will sustain a baby Crystal Wyvern for about 58 minutes. As a Crystal Wyvern matures it eats slower like all dinos (ie. at 80% maturation, a Crystal Wyvern consumes about 1 food every 30 seconds).
Primal Crystal is obtained by knocking out a Crystal Wyvern, and the Crystal is simply harvested from the unconscious body. The amount of crystal inside the wyvern varies on their level, with higher levels more likely to have more crystal grown on it. It's possible to build cages in which to trap Crystal Wyverns to make harvesting them easier. Be aware that re-knocking out a trapped crystal Wyvern does not give any more crystal immediately. Crystal Wyverns regenerate their lost crystal every hour.
An important detail about newly hatched Crystal Wyverns (especially at lower levels) is that even though the maximum food stated in the creature's statistics might be several thousand, the maximum food the baby can actually hold might be less than 350 (the amount of food one Primal Crystal delivers). This means that lower level baby Wyverns will never eat crystal on their own, and will have to be force fed Primal Crystal until they can actually hold more than 350 food.
Utility
• Titan Killer: Bring a large army of blood crystal wyverns to quickly drain a titan's health (incredibly useful against the
King Titan). It's best to bring a swarm of 25 health-bred blood crystal wyverns.
• All around Transport: Any wyvern, preferably tropical for the added speed. Little bit of weight, some stamina, and some health. You want them to be able to take hits just in case someone decides to attack you.
• Scouting Mount: Mostly only level stamina and health so you can escape if someone spots you and attacks. best for this is tropical wyvern
• Turkey Killer: the Blood variant can do good damage to Super Turkeys and heal at the same time. Super Turkeys have no damage reduction to its breath attack.
•
Magmasaur breeding: while Magmasaur needs 2 fire wyverns to breed on lava-less maps such as Ab or Val, they only need 1 ember wyvern due to double range of it's breath attack

Abilities
what it does and how you trigger it
- Bite Primary attack
The Wyvern bites the target for 45 damage.
10 stamina · 0.72 cooldown - Grab Special 1
While in air, the Wyvern can pick up another creature. Grabbing does no damage to the target.
40 stamina · 1 cooldown - Taunt Special 1
While on ground, the Wyvern flaps its wings and taunts the target. Does no damage. This pushes creatures in front of the Wyvern away.
2 stamina · 1.55 cooldown - Lifesteal Breath Secondary attack
The Blood Wyvern drains health from the target to heal itself, dealing 12 direct damage per hit. 6% of target's maximum health, but no more than 35 and no less than 7, is dealt to the target per second, over 4 seconds. Recovers 50% of all DoT dealt with the breath as health.
120 stamina - Fire Breath Secondary attack
The Ember Wyvern bathes the target in flames dealing 16 to 24 direct damage per hit, scaling with the repeated hit multiplier. 6%-9% of the target's maximum health, but no more than 45-67.5 and no less than 9-13.5, scaling with the repeated hit multiplier, is dealt to the target over 4 seconds.
120 stamina - Scalding Breath Secondary attack
The Tropical Wyvern douses the target in scalding water dealing 14 direct damage per hit. The target's movement speed is reduced 12.5%. 6% of target's maximum health, but no more than 40 and no less than 8, is dealt to the target per second, over 4 seconds.
120 stamina - Flight Jump
Identically to all other flying creatures, Crystal Wyvern flight shares the same mechanics and controls. Press the key again when near ground to land. The Wyvern has access to all of its other abilities while airborne, with the exception of the knockback taunt, which is replaced with the grab move mapped to the same button.
