Every number in this card is at official 1× rates, with the fastest food. Taming speed and food consumption multipliers change all of it, and most servers are not on official — the calculator at the top of this tab takes your rates, a Sanguine Elixir, and every other food this creature will eat.
Effectiveness is what decides the bonus levels: every unit of food eaten costs a slice of it, so the food that needs the fewest units finishes at the highest level. That is why kibble is worth the trouble — not that it is much faster, but that it is fewer feedings.
Torpor drains at 3.125 per second while it is unconscious, so on a long tame you will need Narcotic to keep it down. The calculator works out how much.

To tame a Xiphactinus, lure it to shallow water or trap it inside 4 dino gateways. Aggro it with a tanky mount (like a
Sarco or
Stegosaurus), then knock it out with a
Crossbow and
Tranq Arrows. Feed it
Superior Kibble and use
Narcotics, as its torpor drains quickly.

Abilities
what it does and how you trigger it
- Bite Primary attack
The Xiphactinus bites the for 23 damage. If the Xiphactinus is grabbing a creature on its jaws, this attack triggers a thrash.
5 stamina · 0.35s cooldown - Lunge Secondary attack
The Xiphactinus lunges at the target. If the target is under a drag weight of 210 the Xiphactinus will grab it on its jaws. If it loses an specific amount of its total Health based on its drag weight the Xiphactinus will instantly kill it on its next bite, creating a cloud of blood around and giving Xiphactinus the Blood Frenzy buff for 35 seconds. If the Xiphactinus hits a target larger than this, it will proceed to rip pieces of flesh from the victim. This causes the victim to acquire the Bleeding Stack debuff while the Xiphactinus gets Blood Frenzy buff for 35 seconds. The Bleeding stacks up to 10 times. This action also allows the Xiphactinus to jump above the water surface.
20 stamina · 5s cooldown - Jump Jump
The Xiphactinus leaps forward while flopping on land.
5 stamina
- Pack Leader
The Pack Leader buff is obtained by the creature of the pack with the highest level. This buff increases the pack leader's Melee Damage by 25% and damage resistance by 12.5%.
- Pack Boost
The Xiphactinus receives the Pack Boost whenever it is near another allied Xiphactinus. A "pack" of two Xiphactinus will receive a +1 Bonus, which will go up to +8 in a Group of 9 or more Xiphactinus. They receive +30% extra Melee Damage and +10% damage resistance per extra pack member up to 8 members.
- Auto-Harvest Corpses
The Xiphactinus automatically collects the corpses of its victims when they die from one of its attacks.
Passive
Whenever Xiphactinus lunges at bigger targets that it or kills smaller targets while it is grabbing it, the Xiphactinus will get the Blood Frenzy buff, which recovers its Health at the cost of Food at quick rate, lasts for 35 seconds and the timer can be reset.
Unlike other fully underwater creatures, the Xiphactinus is able to fully go out of the water and onto land by flopping. It can also attack while on land as well. However, the Xiphactinus cannot stay on land for long. If it does, then it will receive the Landlubber debuff. This status occurs when a Xiphactinus has made contact with land after a long time. The debuff causes damage to be inflicted on the Xiphactinus, eventually killing it.
