The Cave

guide

A drowned Greek temple near the centre of the map, holding the Artifact of the Brute for the Thodes fight.

The entrance is at 48.5 / 49.8. The spawn list runs from cave crawlers to open-water predators — the flooded halls hold Megalodon and Mosasaurus.

Hazards

  • Long flooded sections with ocean predators in them — treat the swim as the dangerous part.

Recommended Equipment

  • Scuba gear or an aquatic mount for the flooded halls.

What You'll Be Dealing With

assembled from what lives in this cave 15
UnderwaterShockArmour damageTorporPoison and gas
  • Anglerfish — Lures, then bites hard, in water dark enough that you meet it at melee range.
  • Dunkleosteus — High armour and health; slow, but it destroys what it catches.
  • Helicoprion — A fast, shark-like open-ocean predator built for speed; it runs down anything slower.
  • Manta — Fast, and hits hard for its size in shallow water.
  • Megalodon — Fast, and does enough damage to kill a swimmer immediately.
  • Mosasaurus — Very high health and damage; one of the strongest things in any flooded cave.
  • Piranha — Attacks in shoals the moment you enter the water, and does not stop.
Do not enter the water on foot. There is no gear answer, only a mount.
  • Xiphactinus — A large predatory fish with rows of razor teeth, aggressive to swimmers on sight.
  • Cnidaria — Shocks on contact, dismounting a rider and stunning a swimmer.
  • Electrophorus — Shocks you in the water, which stops you swimming and stops you fighting back until it ends.
Never enter water that has one in it on foot — the shock lasts long enough to drown you.
  • Arthropluera — Its ranged acid attack damages armour directly — primitive Flak breaks in one or two hits — and armour damage cannot be repaired if the piece is destroyed.
Wear Hide rather than Flak and carry Fiber and Hide to repair. Kill it at range; it out-damages armour faster than you out-heal it.
  • Araneo — Webs you in place from range, which stops you kiting and stops a mount fleeing. Its bite applies torpor.
Kill it at range before it closes. Bug Repellant makes it ignore you entirely.
  • Pulmonoscorpius — Torpor per hit, higher than almost anything else its size, and it is fast.
Bug Repellant, and Stimulant for when it lands hits anyway.
  • Titanoboa — Applies heavy torpor per bite and is quiet enough to reach you before you see it.
Stimberries or Stimulant on your hotbar. Two bites will drop an unprepared survivor.
  • Eurypterid — Applies torpor and Swamp Fever-style damage over time in water.
Not a threat: Dung Beetle, Trilobite
