The Cave

This cave is in the south-central part of The Island, just north of the Sandy Cove, and can easily be reached on foot from the western bank of the river just west of the cove. Begin your trek at approximately (81.2, 49.5) and head east into the small ravine. Cave entrance is in the right cliff wall, a few hundred meters from the beach.

The Lower South Cave is one of the easiest caves on The Island, though it is still more dangerous than anything in the nearby surface enviroment. It houses the Artifact of the Hunter. Multiple creatures will slow and tranquilize the survivor as they swarm to the fight, and narrow, twisty passages and sudden drop-offs into crowds of creatures.

Mega Rabies contracted from Megalania (only on PC and consoles)
Slowing Webbed attacks from Araneo
Significant risk to from the Arthropluera's acid attack
Waters full of Sarcosuchus and Piranha
Recoil damage (and durability reduction) from melee attacks to the Arthropluera's armor
Easy to get encumbered if harvesting resources. Bring animals that have weight reductions on important items

Piranha — Attacks in shoals the moment you enter the water, and does not stop.
Do not enter the water on foot. There is no gear answer, only a mount.
Sarco — Rolls a survivor in water and is fast on land as well.
Megalosaurus — Active and aggressive at night, sluggish by day. Its bite grabs and pins a survivor, and it hits hard enough to end a cave run outright.
Run the cave in daylight where the cave's day/night cycle allows it. Do not use splash damage near one.
Arthropluera — Its ranged acid attack damages armour directly — primitive Flak breaks in one or two hits — and armour damage cannot be repaired if the piece is destroyed.
Wear Hide rather than Flak and carry Fiber and Hide to repair. Kill it at range; it out-damages armour faster than you out-heal it.
Araneo — Webs you in place from range, which stops you kiting and stops a mount fleeing. Its bite applies torpor.
Kill it at range before it closes. Bug Repellant makes it ignore you entirely.
Pulmonoscorpius — Torpor per hit, higher than almost anything else its size, and it is fast.
Bug Repellant, and Stimulant for when it lands hits anyway.
Titanoboa — Applies heavy torpor per bite and is quiet enough to reach you before you see it.
Stimberries or Stimulant on your hotbar. Two bites will drop an unprepared survivor.
Megalania — Climbs walls and ceilings, so it attacks from above where a mount cannot follow, and its bite applies a stacking torpor.
Check the ceiling. Stimulant for the torpor stacks.
